I wasn’t supposed to be building brands, running companies, or mentoring the next generation. By all conventional standards, I should have been a statistic in Molo or a doctor in a hospital hallway.
My name is Gathendi Boniface. I wasn’t supposed to be here: not building brands, not running a company, not mentoring others. I was supposed to be a doctor. That’s what I thought. But midway, I realised the hospital wasn’t my path.
I grew up in Molo with no parents, no guidance, and zero clear path. When you have nothing, it is easy to fall for anything. I fell into drugs. I lost focus. I failed my KCSE with a D+.
The world wrote me off. But something inside me refused to stay down.
I went back. I fought. I studied until my eyes burned. I turned that D+ into an A-. That grade got me a ticket to the University of Nairobi School of Medicine.
It was the “dream.” But it wasn’t my dream.
Midway through medical school, I made the hardest decision of my life. I walked away because I knew my calling wasn’t in prescriptions. It was in creation.
With no safety net, I taught myself design, web development, digital marketing, and brand strategy. What began as a leap of faith grew into Elona Group, the company behind ventures including Elon Designs, Cloudelona Hosting, Elonmart, and Sasalearn Academy.
Every brand I build is driven by one purpose: creating technology, opportunities, and solutions that help people and businesses grow.
I am “self-taught,” but I did not rise alone.
The real shift happened when I met Siloma Stephen. He didn’t just teach me; he broke me down and built me back up. He gave me the tough love I didn’t know I needed. He made me face myself.
