Today, let me speak to you about the one thing that decides everything else.

Your mindset.

Most young people do not fail because they lack talent. They fail because they think from the wrong place. They look at life and see closed doors. They start something, hit the first wall, and stop. Not because the wall was too high. Because they had already decided they would lose.

I know this because I lived it.

I grew up in Molo. Life was hard. I lost my parents young. I searched for meaning in the wrong places and made choices that pulled me further from the life I wanted. Then I sat KCSE and scored a D+. That result felt like a full stop on my story.

It was not.

I sat the exam again. I studied harder than I ever had. That time I scored an A-.

Nothing about my talent changed between those two exams. What changed was the way I saw myself. I stopped thinking like someone life had already beaten. I started thinking like someone who could try again. That single shift moved me from Molo to the University of Nairobi, then out of a medical degree I did not want, and into building Elon Designs from nothing.

That is mindset.

It does not remove the obstacles. You will still face resistance. Clients will say no. Projects will fail. People will doubt you, and some days you will doubt yourself. The right mindset does not make the road smooth. It keeps you walking when the road turns rough.

So work from the angle of possibility, not the angle of defeat. When you meet a problem, do not ask why it happened to you. Ask what you can build with it. Your past explains you. It does not define you. You cannot always control what happens to you, but you can always control your next move.

Guard this mindset with four decisions.

Reject excuses. They feel comfortable, and they keep you exactly where you are.

Take responsibility. Nobody is coming to build your dream for you. That truth is not cruel. It is freeing.

Stay curious. The moment you think you know enough, you stop growing.

Think long term. The days will feel ordinary. The years will become extraordinary.

Let your mission be your True North. Fix your eyes on it, and let it pull you through the seasons when motivation runs dry.

Get the mindset right, and everything else begins to align.

You are not stuck with the story you were handed. Pick up the pen.
